Annotated Bibliography

This is my annotated bibliography for AICE Media Studies. Most of the resources included provided in depth information that I previously did not know. The resources were prudent in my magazine research as they gave me ideas which helped me formulate my production. Also, the resources helped me learn about marketing strategies and how to create audience engagement, which are essential in keeping my magazine in production.

Creative Critical Reflection

How does your product use or challenge conventions (genre) and how does it represent social groups and issues?

Canva is an advanced styled power point presenter that can be viewed along with a voice over. This question is aimed towards how my product represents social groups, and to me that means importing specific parts of my production, and advocating why it meets the requirements.

How does your project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

For question #2 I chose to do a different advanced power point app called Prezi. This format is great for presenting a lot of information, which is what is needed to answer this question. A detailed and informative platform along with an easy flow makes Prezi the best candidate for this question.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

I thought about how I could prove to people how I developed skills through this project. I realized that being interviewed would illustrate my experience through this project. I could also give a more personal feeling if I included some mise en scene. For instance, the setting is in a restaurant, hard lighting to focus on me, elegant clothes to back up my serious production, and more.

How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware, and online-in this project?

For the last question, their were a couple of different routes I could of taken. I landed on the idea of a screen share so that I can highlight the technology that was infused in my production. I could also deeply describe what the technology did for the project and what I learned along the way.

Production 2- "Final Touches"

I have made all of the edits needed for my magazine that are to my liking. I might have forgotten some elements of the magazine, but at this moment I don't notice anything wrong. I had great experiences with this production. As my first ever magazine, I had an interesting time learning everything that goes into creating one. With all the types of relationships you have to build to get interviews and images, I never would of realized that it would be this challenging. I also had to learn how to use the software to create it. I learned how to create the magazine on InDesign which was just the first part. With some guidance from Google and YouTube videos, I was able to comprehend more and more as I was creating the article. Now it's all about ME! (my magazine Men's Euphoria)

Production 1- "Revise and Edit"

After reflection from peers and of my project, I have decided to make some changes before I upload a final production. The most underlying issue was that my theme was all over the place. I basically have three different types of magazines in one, and I need to change that. I decided to stick with my target audience, young men. I need an impactful and serious tone, with images to appeal to them. I changed my bright photos to a more serious, romantic feeling. I also added some attractive women, which always appeals to most men. I removed some pictures, and added new ones. Now my images match the theme throughout the magazine.

Also, I made some edits to the front covers titles. I realized most the titles took away from the impactful picture, because they were right on top of the objects. I found space in the picture where the words can fit and still not take away from the scene, which will draw peoples attention. Most importantly, I realized that my magazine title has lost its meaning with the magazine I am creating. The title matched my idea before I changed it to a cooking magazine, but now it is an informal heading for a very serious magazine. I have thought about the title for a while and have come up with "Men's Euphoria." my catch phrase is, its all about ME.

Finally, I made some last edits like, text font and coloring. I also incorporated last minute touches like picture configuration. I am happy with my first magazine product and I am ready to get it into distribution.

Peer Review

I was able to present my magazine article to my class and receive great feedback. One of the first things noted was that I should include a male recipe. I had two female recipes and no males, so for the sake of minimalism and small amount of work space, I will drop one of the female ones and add one of the males I interviewed. Next, it was pointed out that the text on the context page was lost because of its color. I will go back and change the color to make it more visible. I was complemented on the little shapes I created with the pen tool, but one of my classes considered to help me figure out a photo shop line tool to help make them look even better. This isn't completely necessary, but if I have time, I will look into it. Someone pointed out that I need to adjust the image on the last page because part of it was cut off, so I can easily fix that. I also forgot to capitalize one of my titles on the front page so that is an easy fix. On my own I realized that I forgot to include the edition for the magazine. Also, someone said I should change the logo, but if I can't get to it, it won't be the end of the world.

Most importantly, I was told that my article is more like three articles. I had three different themes continuous throughout the article instead of one. I had an impactful, cheerful, and informational tone, and I really need to hone in on one. They told me that I don't really know who my audience is yet, because this article can appeal to different types of people. Part of this reason is that my images vary a lot, so I have to retake some news images, that capture a main theme and specific target audience. Once this happens, I might have a really good magazine that someone would maybe read. Edits are going to made, they might be major, but I am going to keep my concept of male cooking and an impactful theme.
